What are threads?

There are two primary types of threads that we use at Valar Aesthetics. Soft threads and lifting threads.

Soft threads are used as an alternative to filler to restore volume.

A thread lift is a nonsurgical, minimally invasive alternative to a face lift. For a thread lift, threads made of suture material are placed under the skin and help tighten and lift the facial skin for a more youthful appearance. A thread lift offers immediate results as well as continued results for greater than a year as collagen forms around the thread and the thread dissolves.

We can help you decide which threads are right for you.

Typically topical numbing is not needed for a soft threads procedure. We have heard the discomfort compared to acupuncture.

Lidocaine is administered under the skin during a thread lift to alleviate discomfort.

During the procedure, a blunted needle called a cannula that contains the thread is inserted under the skin and placed appropriately to treat your aesthetic concerns and the thread is left behind when the needle is removed.

What Does Recovery
Look Like?

With both types of thread procedures, there are some immediate results seen the day of treatment. The max benefit is not seen for several months as collagen forms around the threads and the threads themselves dissolve. Threads usually last 1-2 years.

Soft threads procedures can have some bruising. We recommend thread lift patients treat the treatment area delicately for 1-2 weeks after the procedure.

Risks?
What to do before the procedure?

RISK:
With both treatments, there is a risk of slight bleeding and some bruising, particularly around the eyes. To minimize this risk, we recommend avoiding any medications that cause increased bleeding (aspirin, ibuprofen) for a few days prior to treatment. We will also ice the area prior to treatment to reduce risks of a bruise. Most patients can pretreat with arnica prior to treatment to reduce bleeding and bruising risk as well. With a thread lift, there is a small chance of dimpling of the skin at the endpoint of the placed thread. This typically resolves after 2-3 weeks.

What to do before the procedure?
We recommend coming to the office with a face clean of makeup. You don’t need to pause any skin products for this treatment. If you get cold sores, we recommend pretreating with an antiviral such as acyclovir or valacyclovir to reduce the chance of an outbreak. Avoid medicines that cause easy bleeding such as aspirin and ibuprofen prior to this procedure. We also recommend avoiding alcohol for the day or two before your procedure. The area around the treatment area should be clean shaven prior to coming to the office.
